To all the seniors:

“Enjoy high school while it lasts.”

I have heard that sentence so many times this year.  Had you told me that just a few months ago, I would have instantly explained how much I cannot wait to graduate. But now, it is different. Now, I would say that you are right. It is a strange feeling, but every time I think I am ready to move on to college now, something in my mind tells me to slow down and enjoy the time I have left here. Many of you are probably ready and eager to take the next step in your life. But I ask you, if only for a few moments, to just reflect on how much happened during your time at Ridley High School and all the good times you have had over the past four years.
Remember freshman year, when Apple released the first edition of the iPhone. Remember that we witnessed, first-hand, the rise of Facebook and Twitter and that the Philies won their first World Title in 28 years, and the city of Philadelphia’s first in 25. Remember that America’s first black president was elected to office.
Remember sophomore year, when Justin Bieber paid a visit to Ridley and will probably never set foot here again. Remember that the Call of Duty games reached absurd levels of popularity and Avatar made 3-D a mainstay. Remember the Winter Olympics, where Apolo Ohno became the most decorated American in Winter Olympic history, and the U.S. Hockey Team, that fell just short of replicating the ’80 Miracle Team that won the gold 30 years before. Remember the Flyers beating the Boston Bruins in the playoffs after being down 3-0 to join the comeback club and rallying behind Team USA in the World Cup.
Remember junior year, when Toy Story 3 brought many of us to the verge of tears. Remember that the Phillies shocked all of baseball with the surprise signing of Cliff Lee. Remember that Osama Bin Laden, the man who caused so much devastation, was finally caught, and U-S-A chants erupted everywhere.
Finally, remember senior year. Remember that many of us experienced an earthquake and a hurricane for the first time in our lives. Remember that Harry Potter’s book to movie adaptation came to an end, while the Hunger Games just got started.
Remember all the great times you have had over the past four years and all the unforgettable experiences with your friends and family. Remember the sports and the band. Remember the clubs, the dances, and the Europe trips. Remember Class Night and the Prom.
So much has been accomplished over the past four years; take the time to appreciate it all as our time at Ridley comes to an end. Then imagine what the next four years can bring, all the advancements and innovations. This is not the end; it is just the beginning. Who knows, maybe one of you will be the one that does something great.

I wish nothing but the best for the class of 2012.
